Shih Tzu Puppy- What are Best Homemade Food For Shih Tzu Puppy

Shih Tzu Puppy are known to be picky eaters. It’s true. So, one of the chief reasons a Shih Tzu Puppy may be scrunching their tiny nose away from the food being served is because they simply don’t like what’s in there.

I currently have 4 adult shih tzus and one is not a good eater although she looks healthy. That one only eats once a day many times although the others eat morning and evening.

I have found that my doggies don’t like dry kibble alone. It really helped to soften it with a little boiling water, drain, cool for several minutes and serve with real meat mixed in, and sometimes cooked veggies (carrots, potatoes, green beans, etc.). Salt and seasonings are not good for dogs, so just chop and boil a little fresh veggies.

I rotate or mix: pork liver or any kind of cooked liver, shredded boiled chicken, and/or fried ground beef. They normally eat well everyday now for more than a year.

They don’t eat that much. Mine only eat less than 1/2 cup of dry food per day each and a spoonful of real cooked meat (with no seasoning) mixed in. So if you feed twice a day that’s only a 1/4th cup kibble per serving and some meat.

I cook meat and have a supply in the refrigerator for 4 or 5 days….it (http://days….it) doesn’t stay good much longer than that. Or it can be frozen.

My dry kibble is 2 or 3 or 4 different good quality kinds mixed together. I do that because my first Shih Tzu Puppy developed a liver problem and the vet told me to just change her food because apparently eating that same brand of food for years lacked some nutrients or had too much of one ingredient.

Also, it happens where I live that there are times when one brand becomes unavailable for weeks, so it is not an abrupt change of food if that happens.

My dogs like these dry foods: Acana Lamb (grain-free), Go! Natural Salmon (grain-free), and Holistic, Vitality, and/or Beef Pro. Sometimes if those flavors are not available I buy the Lamb flavour in Go! and Acana Turkey or another flavor.

I live in the Philippines and get these dog foods imported from Canada and delivered to my door. Holistic comes from Thailand and it has some rice in it. I have added some of these brands lately. They used to say “grain-free” diet is better for dogs but recently they are saying it shouldn’t be all grain free. (?)

You can Google best dog foods to research ingredients. Avoid ones that include “meal” such as corn meal, chicken meal, etc. Most dry dog foods you buy at supermarkets do not have much nutritional value, but have too many fillers.

Look for natural ingredients, not chemicals or fillers. The good quality foods are more expensive, but for a small dog, they don’t eat that much.

Shih tzu puppy have a relatively larger diet as compared to other toy breeds. A puppy requires more calories and protein as compared to an adult to foster their growth.

At 4 months of age a shih tzu puppy is about 50% of its full size and may weigh around 3.5 kg.

Hope the below points help you in keeping your pooch happy and in the pink of health:

How much food for Shih Tzu Puppy ?
  1. For each kg of body weight a puppy must eat 60 grams of food . So if your pooch weighs 3.5 kg, he/she must eat 3.5 x 60= 210 grams of food.
  2. Feed him/her 3 times a day.
  3. Never “free feed” the puppy i.e. never leave out food for him/her to eat whenever he/she wishes. There is a high probability of over eating

What Foods Can A Shih Tzu Puppy Eat?

Mostly of the food recommended are foods which give energy to the Shih Tzu Puppy and are easily available in the market and some can be made at home. Then understand What Foods Can A Shih Tzu Puppy Eat.

  1. I recommend the brand “Royal Canin”. You may also opt for “Pedigree Professional”.
  2. Boiled chicken and eggs shall be highly welcomed by your puppy.
  3. Dog treats serve a great reinforcements while training your pup.
  4. Chapatis/Rotis(Indian flat bread) can also be given.

Shih Tzu Puppy Food To Avoid

  1. Chocolates
  2. Sugar
  3. Excess Salt
  4. Grapes
  5. Processed foods

These foods mostly cause tooth decay as mostly are sugary in nature then when you give your puppy these kind of food might leads to tooth decay or you have to take to the Vet for medical check up to keep safe so keep in mind on Shih Tzu Puppy Food To Avoid.

Lastly Shih Tzu Puppy need care as so as to enjoy their presence unless otherwise it will be hard for it to leave and enjoy life with it as these dogs are beautiful and need to be handled and kept in good house, good food and totally good environment to enjoy its presence.
